Monday Pep Talk No. 9

home|school|life magazine's Monday Pep Talk has lots of fun ideas for planning your homeschool week.

It’s Monday again — and we’ve got just what you need to get excited about the coming week.

3 fun things to do this week

Celebrate Talk Like a Pirate Day on the 19th with some of our fun pirate study ideas from the summer issue.

There’s no better time to start a rock collection than Collect Rocks Day (September 16). The American Museum of Natural History has a great guide for beginning rock collectors. If you don’t have a rock identification guide yet, we like the National Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Rocks and Minerals.

Add more primary sources to your history lessons this year with Stanford’s awesome (and free!) Reading Like a Historian program.

3 ideas for this week’s dinners

Southern squash casserole is the perfect comfort food for September —— warm and cozy but still full of summer flavors.

This sriracha chicken comes together in less than 15 minutes, but it tastes like you spent hours in the kitchen.

This pasta risotto is like a very posh macaroni and cheese — it would make a nice side for something like pot roast or brisket, but you could also serve it with a hearty salad and call it dinner.

one great readaloud

Unusual Chickens for the Exceptional Poultry Farmer by Kelly Jones, a hilarious novel-in-letters about a girl who inherits some very peculiar chickens when her family moves to her uncle’s farm.

one thought to ponder

in case of emergency {because sometimes you need something stronger than inspiration}
